OSS will provide a hardened IT solution for Embark

ESCONDIDO, Calif., Oct. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — One Stop Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: OSS), a leader in transportable edge AI solutions, has won two new autonomous truck programs with Embark Trucks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EMBK), a leading developer of autonomous technologies for the trucking industry.

The two wins include one for OSS’ Centauri Rugged PCIe Storage Expansion System and another for OSS’ Next-Generation Optimized Autonomous Truck 3U SDS-AT Rugged Accelerated Compute Server.

New wins involve outfitting Embark’s test fleet trucks with the highest performing compute and transportable storage capabilities. Embark is expected to be in the top 10 OSS accounts starting this year.

OSS worked closely with Embark and other customers to define the attributes and inform the design of the next-generation 3U SDS that would make it ideal for the self-driving truck market. Leveraging Embark’s industry experience and feedback, the OSS has included attributes such as additional robustness and more efficient air cooling, system and I/O monitoring, all elements essential to the commercial operation of autonomous long-haul trucks.

The 3U SDS is powered by three of the most advanced NVIDIA® A100 Tensor Core GPUan AMD Epyc 7003 series processor and one of the fastest Gen 4 NVMe flash storage products on the market.

Embark is a market leader in the autonomous trucking industry and is focused on bringing to market its self-driving software for tractor-trailers, Embark Driver. Self-driving trucks powered by Embark can transport goods for a longer period of uninterrupted time, create greater efficiency, and significantly improve the economics of shipping across the country, which are key benefits as the U.S. are struggling with a chronic shortage of truck drivers.

Self-driving capabilities can also improve safety and fuel efficiency in the trucking industry. They can also reduce delivery times by allowing trucks to travel across the United States in shorter periods of time compared to human-driven trucks, which are limited by hours of service regulations.

About Centauri portable flash storage integration
Centauri is a hardened PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage system that offers high capacity in a compact, hot-swappable, and easily transportable cartridge that slides into a flange-mount chassis.

Centauri can store up to 320 terabytes of data in an eight-disc cartridge. All eight drives can be removed simultaneously from the saddlebag of a self-driving truck without having to climb into the truck. They can be quickly transported to depot hub servers, which upload the data to the cloud. The cartridge accepts U.2 NVMe or SATA SSDs.

How the system works
OSS compute solutions, like the 3U SDS-AT OSS, integrate directly with autonomous trucking software to collect and process data from the multiple sensors embedded around an autonomous vehicle, including LiDAR, radar, telemetry (GPS ) and cameras, to make decisions on the road in real time. The large amounts of data captured by the sensors and the performance of the autonomous driving model are then saved to an OSS storage solution, such as Centauri, and then transported and uploaded to the cloud in central autonomous truck depots. Cloud data from the self-driving trucks is then used by data scientists and an evolving machine learning AI model to improve the vehicle’s self-driving capabilities.

The combination of fast Gen 4 NVMe memory in a removable cartridge and Centauri’s easily accessible location in a truck’s external “saddlebag” compartment creates a very efficient method of transporting data between truck and depot, and gets the truck back on the road quickly.
